“Asking for help doesn’t devalue who you are in any way, it doesn’t show you’re weak, it shows you’re human.” – Nadine’s NICU Journeys
Sometimes we need a helping hand. In our case, accepting support from those we could truly trust and rely on has enabled us to move forward in our struggles. It has also allowed us to connect meaningfully with our supporters and bolstered our resilience through the tough days.
Just when we felt like we were struggling to stay afloat, help from various sources allowed us to focus on what was important. It helped us to navigate us through this rocky but beautiful time.
The support we have received has also given us more breathing room to focus on the necessities for our little family. Like anything in life, with competing priories often at the forefront of a crisis or challenge, it’s important to talk to others in the same boat as you. This could include other special care/NICU mama’s, support networks and online groups – every little bit counts!
Remember to Take Time for Yourself!
I get it – I thought I had to be by my baby’s hospital cot-side 24/7, but this is truly exhausting! If you need a break, take it and always remember that a refreshed mama is the best mama!
Remember that there is light at the end of the tunnel. At the time you are in the nursery, it will feel like months have passed by. When you look back, it won’t seem so long.
Take lots of photos of your baby, record the milestones and collect all the mementos you can get your hands on.
Soon you’ll get to take your baby home and this will be a distant memory. Then, the uphill battle will have been worth every single second and the view from the top of the mountain will be priceless – I promise! You’re not alone – ever!
Breastfeeding Mums Need a Support Network and the More!
In my opinion, there is nothing a breastfeeding mother needs more than a tremendous support network and quality trusted breastfeeding equipment. That is what I found with my network of support, both personally and professionally.
The Medela team and their products helped Baby Beckham and me to find our breastfeeding groove.
As prem-mamas, stress and worry, sleep deprivation from around the clock pumping, postpartum hormones and a newborn bubble can create a perfect storm of confusion and angst.
Fortunately, my support team and Medela’s products were right there to calm troubled waters and this stressed out mama who was trying her best for her baby.
Medela’s Products Helped Me on My Breastfeeding Journey
The Medela Freestyle pump and bustier were instrumental in facilitating this breastfeeding journey of ours. This support was important as I recovered from my emergency c-section, back to back hospital visits to and from home, around the clock pumping, car-pumping, hospital pumping… not to mention the juggle between our children’s needs.
Also, having my eldest son wanting my undivided attention meant I needed to be hands-free, expressing and giving attention to my big boy simultaneously. Without Medela and their extensive range of quality and trusted breast pump products, I doubt we would have had the success we did.
Medela is the real MVP (Most Valuable Player) to us mama’s providing the backbone of support, solutions and reliability to get over the expected and unexpected hurdles in the early days and supporting our long-term breastfeeding goals and aspirations.
Thank you Medela! I couldn’t have done this without you! I look forward to another long beautiful breastfeeding journey with our beloved baby number two!
